2019-2020 Clubs

Clubs Calendar

All clubs require parent permission slips PRIOR to attending. Students should see the respective teacher-advisor to obtain the permission slip. Please note, most clubs have a specific time-frame for signing up and a minimum/maximum number of participants.  Late registrants will be accommodated, if possible, at the discretion of the advisor.  All clubs will require parent transportation.

Adventures of Ozobots Club – 1st grade (Winter)
Advisor: Mrs. Kupcha (akupcha@washtwpsd.org)
Students in 1st grade will learn how to use basic coding functions to program an Ozobot. The club meets once a week.

Archery Club – 6th Grade (Fall – Spring)
Advisor: Mr. Scism (sscism@washtwpsd.org)
Students will practice their archery form and compete in various skills-based competitions, which may culminate in a national competition.  Preparticipation Physical Evaluation (PPE) required – 6th Grade.  This club runs from November – April.

Art Club – Port Colden (Fall/Winter)
Advisor: Mrs. Giuliano (kgiuliano@washtwpsd.org)
Introduce children to different multi-cultural art lessons such as ;colorful fish banners from Japan, Chinese Sumi-e painting, American craft yarn scarecrows.  These are just a few of the fun projects we will enjoy creating.

Blue and White Band – Brass Castle (Fall-Spring)

Students will rehearse and perform elementary band repertoire with an emphasis on ensemble sound and musicianship. Students will learn note reading, rhythm reading and other skills. The club will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays before school, beginning in September.

Board Games & More Club – Brass Castle 4th – 5th Grades (Winter)

BC Board Games & More
The Brass Castle Board Games and More Club for students in grades 4 and 5 will provide students with the opportunity to have some fun playing traditional board games such as Monopoly and Scrabble, as well as newer games like HeadBandz and Apples to Apples. Students will also be challenged to complete puzzles and brain teasers.

Boys Running Club – 5th & 6th Grades – Brass Castle (Spring)
Advisors: Miss McEvoy (smcevoy@washtwpsd.org) & Mr. Rizzo (nrizzo@washtwpsd.org)
Grade 5 and 6 students will participate in a fun after-school club for boys who are interested in preparing for a 5K race or simply trying to improve his own running ability.  Club will meet 2 x week from April through May.  Preparticipation Physical Evaluation (PPE) required – 6th Grade.

Chorus Club – 5th & 6th Grades – Brass Castle (Fall-Spring)

Students will rehearse musical performances, for presentations throughout the year.  This club will run from the Fall through the Spring on Thursday mornings, before school at 8:10am.  Dates are grade-level specific.

Students in grades 4 – 6 will strengthen their strategy development skills and work toward earning a spot to compete in a chess tournament, with other schools.  This club will run from January through March.

Crazy 8’s Club – 2nd  Grade – Port Colden (Fall)

Students in 2nd grade will have the opportunity to partake in the  Crazy 8s Club. The club is designed to get kids enthusiastic about math. Students have the opportunity to construct items, use physical activity such as running and jumping, make music, make a messes, and make friendships at the same time. This club will run from September – November.

Debate Club – Brass Castle (October-November)

Students will enhance their argumentative and persuasive skills to defend a position on a hot topic, based on research and collaborative discussions with peers.

Eco-Kids Club (Previously Garden Club) – 4th, 5th, & 6th Grades – Brass Castle (Winter – Spring)

EcoKids Spring 2020
The Eco Kids Club will provide interested fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students with opportunities to explore different elements of the environment around them.  These experiences may involve, but are not limited to, gardening, biodiversity, climate change, consumption and waste, energy, healthy living, clean water, and schoolyard habitats. Students will gain knowledge, skills and values related to environmental citizenship.  Students will participate in projects and in creating awareness for our school about environmental topics.

Field Hockey Club – Port Colden

Students will have an opportunity to strengthen their field hockey and team-building skills.

Game/Craft Club – Kindergarten – Brass Castle (Spring)
Advisor: Miss McEvoy (smcevoy@washtwpsd.org)
Students will have an opportunity to strengthen their team-building, social, and communication skills, while playing various games and participating in art activities.  This club will run from April through June.  Some games may be played outside!

Girls Running Club – 5th & 6th Grades – Brass Castle (Spring)
Advisors: Mrs. Casserly (pcasserly@washtwpsd.org) and Mrs. Peterson (speterson@washtwpsd.org)
Grade 5 and 6 students will participate in a fun after-school club for girls who are interested in preparing for a 5K all girls’ race.  Any ability can join; your competition is yourself.  Try to improve your own running ability.  Our goal is for all club participants to finish the race. Club will meet from April through May; days of the week to be determined.  Preparticipation Physical Evaluation (PPE) required – 6th Grade.

Golf Club – Port Colden – (Spring)

Students will  learn the basics of the game, golf etiquette, and rules.

Golf Club – 4th – 6th Grade – Brass Castle – (Spring)
Advisor: Mrs. Penner (kpenner@washtwpsd.org)
Students will  learn the basics of the game, golf etiquette, and rules.  The club will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the spring, and offer two additional Saturday sessions at a local golf course (for a minimal fee).  Preparticipation Physical Evaluation (PPE) required – 6th Grade.

Helping Hands Club – 4th, 5th, & 6th Grades – Brass Castle (Fall)

Students will participate in and help organize various volunteer activities throughout their school and community.  Students will learn leadership skills and the importance of giving back to their community.  The club will meet on most Mondays beginning October 7th through December 9th from 3:25 P.M. – 4:25 P.M.

Homework Club – 4th – 6th Grades – Brass Castle (Fall-Spring)

Teacher-recommended students will be provided with a safe, quiet and structured environment to allow them to get a good start on their daily homework assignments. They will receive support and assistance to complete assignments and/or study for upcoming tests and quizzes. The club will meet most Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays that school is in session from.

Students in Kindergarten will expand their love for reading using familiar Fairy Tales.  This club will run from February-April.

Running Club – Port Colden (Fall)

Students in 3rd grade will participate in a developing running strength and endurance to improve their running ability.  The club meets twice a week.

Senior Program – 6th Grade – Brass Castle (Fall-Spring)

Students in 6th Grade are paired with local area Senior Citizens, to interview, discuss, and learn about their experiences.  This year, students and seniors will get to know each other through conversation and by completing various community service projects.  This program will run throughout the year and meeting dates will vary by season.  The program is made possible by the Washington Township Education Association, Board of Education, teachers, and support staff.

Sewing Club – 4th – 6th Grades – Brass Castle (October – December)

Students in fourth – sixth grades will learn some basic sewing stitches and skills.  They will create a small project to take home, by the end of the club.  This club will run based on student interest.
